Topic B: Biotechnological applications to improve the utilisation of biomass
We are seeking partners for joint research and innovation activities in biotechnological valorisation of biomass. Our interests include:
Development of sustainable bioprocesses for converting agricultural and industrial residues into high-value bio-based products;
Enzymatic and microbial applications for biomass upgrading and recycling;
Integration of biotechnology and circular economy principles for resource-efficient production systems;Collaboration on technology development, pilot-scale validation, and life cycle analysis (LCA).
We are open to cooperation with universities, research institutions, and industrial partners in bio-based materials, bioprocess engineering, or environmental biotechnology. Our goal is to co-develop a project proposal within the Green ERA-Hub framework to advance sustainable bioeconomy applications.
ThIWert - Thuringian Innovation Center for Recyclable Materials at Hochschule Nordhausen (University of Applied Sciences) focuses on applied research in Biomass ressource mangament, sustainable materials, circular economy, and process optimisation. The institute combines expertise in biomass, process engineering, recycling, and material development to address industrial and environmental challenges.
Our facilities include advanced laboratories for bioprocessing, chemical analysis, and materials testing. The research team has experience in EU and BMBF-funded projects, with strong collaborations with both academia and industry in Germany and internationally.
Hochschule Nordhausen promotes interdisciplinary research aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly focusing on sustainable resource management, energy efficiency, and bio-based innovation.
